Gears, bearings, springs and cast housings on the same line, each needing a different alloy and grade of media.
An automotive plant rarely has one blasting requirement. A gear needs peening for fatigue life, a cast housing needs deflashing without surface damage, and a spring needs a controlled intensity that is verified rather than assumed.
The mistake is running one medium across all three because the store holds one bin. Conditioned shot on a casting is slower than it needs to be; as-cut shot on a spring damages the surface it was supposed to strengthen.
