Process
Where Each PRT Product Sits in the Exhaust Path
Engine Out
Raw exhaust leaves the gasoline or diesel engine carrying CO, hydrocarbons, NOx and particulate matter.
Oxidation
A ceramic or metallic carrier coated with catalyst oxidises CO and unburned hydrocarbons.
Particulate Trap
A cordierite or SiC wall flow filter captures soot inside the porous channel walls.
Regeneration
When pressure loss rises, gas temperature is raised so the trapped particulate burns off.
NOx Reduction
Honeycomb SCR catalyst converts NOx into nitrogen and water using ammonia as reducing agent.
