Stainless steel cut wire shot
Stainless media in as-cut and conditioned form for peening and for cleaning parts that must not be left with iron on them.
Stainless is specified when the finished part cannot carry iron. Steel media leaves ferrous particles embedded in a softer surface, and on aluminium, magnesium or stainless components those particles rust, stain and in some cases start galvanic corrosion months after the part shipped.
As-cut shot is cylindrical, with sharp cut ends. It cuts harder and cleans faster, which suits descaling and general cleaning. Conditioned shot has been rounded, and it is what peening work needs because a sharp edge striking the surface initiates a crack rather than closing one.
Sizes run from 0.05 mm, which is fine enough for delicate peening and decorative satin finishing, up to 3.5 mm for heavy cleaning. The size is chosen by the feature you have to reach into and the coverage you have to achieve, not by the size of the part.
