Hygienic and heat transfer pumps
Hygienic centrifugal pumps for food, dairy and beverage, and heat transfer pumps for service up to 350 degrees.
These two sit together because they are the two duties where an ordinary pump fails for reasons that have nothing to do with hydraulics. A hygienic pump fails an inspection; a heat transfer pump fails a seal.
Hygienic duty is about what the pump can be cleaned to, not what it can move. Internal surface finish, the absence of dead legs and crevices, and whether the unit can be cleaned in place decide whether it passes a swab test, and none of those appear on a performance curve.
Heat transfer duty is about what the seal survives. At 350 degrees the fluid is thin, the seal faces run hot and any leak is a fire risk rather than a housekeeping problem, which is why the pump is built differently rather than simply rated higher.
