An access platform package with ball joint handrail
A platform where the deck grating and the edge protection had to arrive together, in one finish, with base plates already drilled to the layout.
This was a package rather than a grating order: deck panels, a supporting frame, stair treads, base plates and a ball joint handrail system, all of which had to fit each other on site with no fabrication.
Base plate hole positions were the detail that made it work. They were drilled to the deck layout as manufactured rather than as originally drawn, which is the difference between bolting down a stanchion and drilling a platform that is already installed.
The whole package was coated in one finish and loaded on one truck. A galvanized deck with a painted handrail reads as two separate jobs, and correcting it after installation costs more than specifying it together at the start.
