Coated zinc etching plate

A coated plate arrives light sensitive, so the workshop exposes and develops rather than coating in house. That removes the most variable step in the whole process: a hand-coated plate varies with the room, the operator and the day, and a factory-coated one does not.
Zinc etches more coarsely than magnesium and costs less, which makes it the right plate for volume work where the detail is moderate: banners, wall calendars, general printing, stamping and embossing dies for card and board.
Our zinc plate is supplied with a red film on the back. It is not decoration: it identifies the coated face at a glance in a workshop where plates are handled in low light, and it protects the reverse from handling marks before exposure.
